Winter Market in Karanac and Čvarakfest (2024.)

On the last Saturday in November, as every year, the fattest, tastiest festival in the region awaits you, the one dedicated to “Baranja truffles” – Čvarci (Cracklings).

In Karanac, traditionally, on the fair meadow next to the church of St. Donat, holds the largest fair of domestic products in the region. The winter fair is an ideal event that offers the products of almost 80 local producers of domestic products, mostly from Baranja and Slavonia OPG.

Here you can make purchases and fill your pantry shelves for the whole winter. Famous cured meat products from Baranja (kulen, bacon, sausage, ham, crackers, lard…), wine, brandy, juices, cheeses, pastries, cakes, honey, ground red pepper, wicker baskets, wooden kitchen utensils, souvenirs, antiques…

Of course, what would it be like in Baranja without our famous cuisine, so at Vašar you can taste shepherd’s pie, beans from a clay pot, kollovina, baked sausages, carp in forks and “water down” all this with top quality wine. Before lunch, don’t forget to toast with a shot of homemade brandy.

During the Winter Fair, Čvarakfest is also held, at the same time and in the same place. It is a crackling melting competition, and the winner wins the title of CRACKLE MASTER. You can also buy competition cracklings while the fat cracklings are hot

Winter fair and Čvarakfest’s official schedule is mostly the same every year, so the tradition is expected to continue on Saturday the 30th. November 2024.:
