Vinatlon, Zmajevac (Baranja)

Do you know what time of year is the best to visit Baranja? During Vinathlon! So mark your calendars for the last weekend in May and get ready for the trip. No matter which part of Croatia (or even beyond) you come from, the good atmosphere and even better wine drops of this year’s Vinathlon will melt away your travel fatigue.

On Friday 29th and Saturday 30th May, organized by the Baranja Winegrowers’ Association Zmajevac with the support of numerous institutions and partners, this year Baranja once again becomes the most desirable wine destination in continental Croatia, and Vinathlon 2026 brings a combination of top-notch enology, authentic Baranja space, great atmosphere and a program that brings together wine lovers, hedonists, hikers and all those looking for a good reason to escape to nature.

But Vinathlon is not just a celebration of wine. It is also the crowning achievement of the professional work of Baranja winegrowers, because the whole story begins at the beginning of May, with the evaluation of the Danube Champion wine and the traditional selection of the Journalist Graševina, which confirms the quality of the labels that the audience will taste at the event itself.

In the beautiful setting of the Interpretation Ethno-Center in Karanac, on Friday, May 29th from 8 p.m., visitors can expect the Evening of Champions, an exclusive opportunity to taste around 150 top samples from the Danube Champion judging, with guest wineries and a musical performance by Goran Karan.

Friday brings additional content through an expert meeting, as well as the signing of the Wine Circle charter. During the day, the wine story will spread across various locations in the Kneževi Vinogradi Municipality, where visitors can expect gold embroidery workshops, wine painting and glass painting, wine tastings, and activities that combine creativity, tradition, and oenological experience.

The real wine postcard of Baranja opens on Saturday, May 30th, because from 2 pm, Zmajevac Surduci becomes the center of top-quality wines, Baranja gastronomy and an unforgettable atmosphere. In addition to enjoying the best wines, visitors can expect the already famous wine games, expert workshops, guided tastings, wine painting, a fair of local products and a concert finale with Nina Badrić.

As before, visitors can choose, Friday, Saturday or both days, their own transportation or organized bus, registration fees or free tastings, organized games and workshops or a relaxed walk from winery to winery. And all information and registration can be found on the link. Due to the limited number of places, especially for Friday and the expert workshops, don’t wait until the last minute. Click and secure your place at one of the most anticipated eno-gastro events of the year today.

Because Vinatlon is not just an event. It is an experience of Baranja at its most beautiful, when wine tells the story of the region, people, tradition and pride that is passed down from cellar to cellar, from glass to glass. Therefore, reserve the last weekend in May for Baranja. Vinatlon 2026 once again invites you to a glass of top-quality wine, a meeting with the best of Baranja and two days to remember.

The event was co-financed through the INTERREG VI-A IPA Programme Croatia – Serbia 2021-2027, as part of the Wine Heritage project.
