Paprikafest – Paprikafesztivál, Lug (Baranja)
Paprika Fest will take place on October 3 and 4, 2026, in Lug, Baranja. As part of the festival, the traditional fišijada (fish paprikash cooking contest) – the 10th Baranja Cup (10. Kup Baranje) – will be held on October 4; the winner earns the right to compete in the national championship.
Paprika Fest is an event traditionally held to mark the Day of the Village of Lug. Its goal is to promote and highlight the value of paprika—specifically ground spice paprika—as one of the most recognizable elements of Baranja’s gastronomy.
While there are numerous spice paprika producers throughout the municipality, Lug is home to the highest concentration of family farms producing this “red gold of Baranja.”
Like other local events, Paprika Fest brings together exhibitors showcasing a variety of domestic products; local gastronomy is presented through food and drink offerings, while the region’s cultural and historical heritage is showcased through song and dance.
Given that Lug has a predominantly Hungarian population, Paprika Fest offers guests an opportunity to learn about the culture and customs of Hungarians in Croatia. It is precisely this rich multiculturalism that makes the entire Baranja region unique and special.
