Osijek Summer of Culture
The Osijek Summer of Culture, the largest cultural event in Slavonia and Baranja, will last from June 24 to August 30, 2026, and music, theater, literature, film, exhibition and children’s programs will fill this summer as well.
This year’s OLJK will open on June 24 at the Vatroslav Lisinski Square in the Osijek Fortress with a film concert by the Pannonian Philharmonic from Pécs conducted by Apor Szüts and a screening of the silent film classic “The General”, which this year marks its 100th anniversary. The event will end on August 30 at the same location with a concert by the Zagreb Philharmonic entitled “An Evening of Film Music”.
Between the opening ceremony and the closing ceremony, the audience can expect a rich program that includes concerts, theater performances, exhibitions, literary meetings, film screenings and programs for children.
Among the more prominent programs are concerts by the bands Góbé and Triology, a performance by the Tony Lakatos Quintet, the Eurochestries international orchestra festival, the Opera Night of the Croatian National Theatre in Osijek, the Three European Baritones concert and a performance by the Krežma Ensemble. Theatre lovers will be able to see the plays “I, the Actress”, “Democracy”, “Between Sleep and Reality”, “The Inner Bitch” and “Death or About Life”, while the exhibition program will include works by domestic and international authors. The organizers are announcing a special focus for an international exhibition that, after London, will find its next stop in Osijek.
The program also includes literary meetings in collaboration with the Osijek City and University Library, the Gastro Film Festival, a cycle of Hungarian films for the Oscars and a series of screenings on the roof terrace of the Cultural Center.
A special segment of the event will once again be OLJKIĆ, a program intended for children and young people, which brings performances, storybooks, film screenings, workshops and the International Picture Book Festival “Guardians of the Story”. Among the activities for the youngest, the performances “Hedgehog’s House”, “One-toothed Pirate”, “Bees” and the final program of OLJKIĆ at the Branko Mihaljević Children’s Theater stand out.
In addition to the Cultural Center Osijek as the organizer of the event, the Croatian National Theater in Osijek, the Branko Mihaljević Children’s Theater, the Osijek City and University Library, the Museum of Slavonia and the Waldinger Gallery are participating in the realization of the program.
