Ivandvor is located somewhere on the mystical border between the plain and the sky. Here, in a picturesque landscape, a herd of Lipizzaner horses gallops, enjoying their freedom unfettered. After they grow up, they will show their splendor in the nearby \u0110akovo, in the large mezzanine of the State Stud. Founded in 1506, it is one of the oldest in Europe. For example, it is 74 years older than the stud farm in Lipica, the home of these magnificent breeds.<\/p>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/visitslavoniabaranja.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/Dr%C5%BEavna-ergela-%C4%90akovo-Denis-Despot.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-3436\"\/><\/figure>\n\n<p>Lipizzaner horses, horses &#8220;that when you touch, you touch history&#8221; (F. Westerman), are an indispensable part of the year-round programs of the \u0110akovo Stud Farm. Equally, they are among the main attractions of large annual events. In the procession of \u0110akovo ties, cultural and folklore events with half a century of tradition, alternate with singers and dancers from many countries. The neighing of horses is complemented by cheerful verses of be\u0107arc, a traditional Slavonian musical form, but also with the echo of sabers from the ritual dance of the beauties from the village of Gorjani. Known as highlanders or queens, they are the last bearers of an age-old custom in which, in the spring, girls introduce themselves to potential suitors, dancing with sabers in their hands (and you thought the combination of &#8220;beautiful &amp; dangerous&#8221; was invented by the screenwriters of <em>Charlie&#8217;s Angels<\/em>). An unavoidable part of the \u0110akovo processions is their passage in front of the Cathedral of St. Peter, one of the most famous religious buildings in Croatia. Seven million bricks are built into the 84 m high ruler of the \u0110akovo vistas, and 395 pylons made of Slavonian oak form its foundations. The interior of the neo-Romanesque building is decorated with frescoes and sculptures by numerous artists, while its crypt contains the tomb of one of the greatest Croatians of the 19th century &#8211; Bishop Josip Juraj Strossmayer.<\/p>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/visitslavoniabaranja.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/Godi%C5%A1nji-proljetni-ophod-ljelja-Maja-Mu%C5%A1ki%C4%87.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-3437\"\/><\/figure>\n\n<p><em>Be\u0107arac and the spring procession of Gorjanske ljelje belong to the protected intangible cultural heritage under the protection of UNESCO, while \u0110akovo vezovi is the largest festival of the original folk folklore of Slavonia, Baranja and Srijem, gathering folklore groups from all over the world.<\/em><\/p>\n\n<p><strong><em>Be\u0107arac: Kad be\u0107ari \u0161orom zapivaju, pen\u0111eri se \u0161irom otvaraju!<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>If you travel to the heart of Slavonia on the &#8220;Slavoniko&#8221; highway, idyllic vistas anchored in the plain, arched by an endless horizon will open before you.
