Famous religious centers of Slavonia

The most famous Marian shrine in Slavonia is Our Lady of Refuge, located on the banks of the Danube in the village of Aljmaš. The symbolism of this special place is enhanced by the nearby confluence of the Drava and the Danube, as well as the proximity of the Erdut vineyard and the medieval ruins there.

On the other hand, in the west of the Osijek-Baranja County, also along the banks of the Drava river, there is a "place of peace, prayer and rest" - the shrine of St. Anne in Bistrinci. According to tradition, Ana chose this hidden and wooded sanctuary with her head and chin, by letting her image float down the Drava River and remain floating right in front of the people of Bistrinci, despite the speed of the river.
