Wine peninsula in the embrace of the Danube
Erdut vineyard
The wines of Slavonia and Baranja have become more attractive and appreciated in recent years. Osijek-Baranja county is dominated by four vineyards: west or Feričanci, south or Đakovo, north or Baranja and east or Erdut. Due to its impressive position on the Danube, the vineyards of Baranja and Erdut are also considered the homeland of "wine from the Danube".
The landscape of the Danube meander in the area of Erdut Municipality is a protected landscape, and at the same time the substrate from which famous wines with rich flavors and aromas are obtained. The vine has been cultivated and worshiped here since the time of the Roman Empire. Today, the Erdut vineyard is dominated by Graševina, and in addition to it, Traminac, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Ottonel Muscat, Pinot Blanc and Pinot Gris, and Rhine Riesling stand out. Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Pinot Noir and Zweigelt are grown from black varieties.
In the Erdut vineyard, there is the largest vineyard in Croatia, with an area of 513 hectares, but also the largest wine oak barrel in use in the world, with a volume of 75,000 liters, in which the Erdut graševina is stored.
Among several events that represent Erdut's eno and gastronomic offer, the Wine & Bike Tour Erdut stands out, which has been held for seven years at the beginning of September, during the grape harvest. It is a Dionysian celebration of wine, art, friendship and multiculturalism on the banks of the great Danube. Finally, don't tell anyone, but this is where Josipa Lisac discovered where the Danube kisses the sky.
This year's program of Wine & Bike takes place from 10th to 11th September, and visitors will enjoy a rich mosaic of events: dramatic performances, a concert in a vineyard under the stars, wine tasting, guided wine tastings, a bicycle-wine race, dancing wine tasting with a DJ, and open cellars of Erdut wineries.
